Tips for Fingerspelling
If you already know to fingerspell each letter of the alphabet, then it is time to sharpen the sentences or phrases. Though it depends on your adaptability to master a language, I can at least give you some tips.
- As an intermediate learner, clarify your each word signing by taking time to process it in your brain.
- Rushing creates mistakes. Thus you will lose confidence and enthusiasm to learn.
- A thumb rule in fingerspelling is that you have to keep your hands fixed while interpreting. You can make it easier for the audience to understand.
- Acronyms have a different method to be expressed. Round every letter in a circle to let the audience know that they are not a word.
- Sometimes fingerspelling the same letter twice can be difficult. Try to bounce your hand in between the words to make it clear.
- It is the most ergonomic way to keep your hand at shoulder height while fingerspelling.
- Other than signing "C," "G," "H," and "O," face your palm forward. For these instances, the palm faces sideways. It is only natural when you get to communicate.
- Avoid eye-catching dresses, colors, and jewelry, or even watches. It distracts the audience from getting your signs.
